Inspired by Ironwork...

The shapes and complex repeat patterns in this ironwork really captured my imagination. I love the designs and can imagine them printed and even picture them as cut work on textile items. I'm thinking of using this as inspiration for the second half of my current module, watch this space ;)

Initial 3d drawings...

Here's a couple of my initial 3D drawings based on my own images of natural objects with man made objects and a witch hazel tree. I'm really pleased with my witch hazel drawing, I used acetate and to print my image on then I worked cut up pieces of further acetate on top to create texture. I also really adore the colours of this too..

Nature Vs Necessity...

I've been out and about searching for inspiration for my current module. With a brief of flowers and foliage, I have decided to bring in an element of juxtaposition. I find the idea of natural objects set against man made things in their natural habitats really intriguing, here is a selection of my own photos to show you what I mean. The shapes of different foliage i.e berries and interesting trees is also grabbing my attention too :)...

Heres a selection of my own photos of lush jewelry in the V and A Museum London. I'm taking inspiration from the curves and geometric shapes in these pieces for my own neck piece that I'm currently working on. I like the idea of combining the aspects of these different products, setting natural curves against more harsh geometric shapes...

Amazing collections in the V & A museum , London. I'm feeling majorly inspired! Shapes/ silhouettes and embellishment perfect inspiration for my current brief- to produce an embellished neckpiece. I'm thinking sculpture? Watch this space...

Coming to the end of another module!

So I've been quiet for a while what with Christmas and holidays, but this week I'm back and feeling ready for some serious graft!

It's deadline day on Monday so I'm just finishing off my fish, (if you can remember the 3d fish drawing I posted back in October I am recreating that in fabric- exciting:) it's almost finished so ill post it up as soon as it is.) 

The first part of this second module was print, the brief was to recreate the 3d tin can we drew in Photoshop in fabric. 

I used mainly screen printing with a combination of hand painted techniques for the finer detail.

I opted for muted tones in a linen fabric...what do you think?

Module 2 final piece- embroidery!

So after hard graft over Christmas, my final piece is finished! 

The fish is made from silk embellished with machine and hand embroidery.
